Did the system really fail or is just a convienient statement ? No pun itended here, but I would like to relate a little incident that happened to me in 2005. I took delivery of my E36 on the 14th of may 2005 and that was the very same day BMW Club had a BBQ in PD organised by Kahar. So it was a Saturday and the dealer called me up to say I can pick my car up at about 12pm. By the time everything was sorted I got my car at about 2pm. Just like anybody I went to get the car checked first at the mechanic. After the whole afternoon and evening at the mechanic, I finally left the shop at about 8pm. Now at about 9pm I drove to PD to meet up with the guys. I wasnt ready to rev up my baby yet as I just picked her up that day. So no speeding, Seat belts on, wasnt on the phone and I wasnt drunk. I get pulled over at a road block next to a police station. No issues as I know they were just doing their job. I put the window down and ' Selamat petang Encik ' and the guy just looks at me, call his superior who later asks me to pull over and to get out of the car. I complied. The first question that they asked me was who's car was this and what am I doing here. In my heart I was thinkin' ' Come on u dumb f**k, it an E36, its 10 years old ' Anyways they checked on their computers and Yes JPJ confirmed that the car was mine. My record was as clean as whistle. Cops not being satisfied walked around the car to see if I had done anything illegal. My car by the way was stock standard. Except for the number plate which was the metal silver ones. No issues I told the cop and told him that I will get it changed as I didnt have the time today. Your computer shows that my car was registered at 12pm today and I picked it up at 2 pm and I spent the whole day sorting out the major stuff like brakes and radiator and so forth first. I also told him the number plate was put there by the previous owner. Here's the kicker - The dumb ass cop said that I should have looked into my number plate first as THAT was important and NOT the mechanics of my car... WTF !!! He would not let me go and dragged me and I mean literally dragged me into the station. There the inspector wrote me a summon and told me in a rude way to sign the slip and I had to. As I walked out I told the darn cop off.. I said ' kenapa... orang india tak boleh pandu BMW ker... ' and left. Its a minor mistake lah... and I didnt think it would be that serious. Exactly 2 weeks I had a warrant of arrest.. This mind boggled even my friends who in the legal field as well... So, my question is why waste time on lil' things like this when they should be checking on more important things. Things that can take away a life. Some times the authorities can be mannerless morons that are so full of them selves.
