Hi all..This is my first post on this forum...My V12 8 Series E31 running on 6 cyl (Limp Mode) powered down and dead tachometer after replacing a new set of plug cables and repair some damaged wiring.I tried several local mechanic/workshop, unfortunately no luck. Now, where can I find a good mechanic or workshop, anywhere around Malaysia to fix the problems..Thanks in advance...73 de 9W2KEL
 
you're so lucky to own the E31. however before we discuss your issues, kindly introduce yourself in our Newbie section using the template provided.
 
Dont think average mechanics dare "touch" your car for two main reasons

1) Parts are too costly and hard to source - too risky and time consuming for them.

2) Experience - Few has ever diagnose a 22 year old 12 cyl .

As they afraid of the "repair here, rosak there" syndrome and owners who are not understanding can be nasty.

To take you on, guess you need to go to "corporate owned service centres" like AutoBavaria ....

or try the bigger boys in town who has vast experience -

hi there, have you found the solution to the problem?

how did you know it's running on 6cylinders?
If you are certain the V12 is currently running on one side of the banks, it could be a broken MAF. try swapping the MAFs to verify.

I have 2 units of MAF from the 750i. they are not new but they do work. i don't mind borrowing them to you

Other possibilities to check since the wiring has been meddled with:
Throttle Body: Worn connection / EML
ECUs : The V12 has 2 ECUs for either banks and works like twin 2.5 M20 engines
EML: controls the Throttle bodies

Wow, nice car. I saw another one at the mechanic at Bimmerholics, Bandar Sunway (belakang Esso). I bet they'd know what to do.
