Datuk tells me that '89 525i (E-34) condenser fan will always be ON and stay ON whenever compressor is operating. But isn't there supposed to be a thermal switch to regulate power to the fan? Why would this fan need to run when I'm driving 200kph....? Does anybody have a clue?

yes... there is a switch...

but the AC unit for the e34 is built in for 3 modes..one for winter, AC on and radiator usage.

Forget about winter, it only works if the car is in Greenland :burnout:

as for the AC is on when the AC switch is on. Off the switch, it stays off, simple..

For the radiator, it's on automatically when it reaches a preset temperature, say 81deg.C
The second speed comes on at 88deg. C

Some comes on earlier, like the e39 which is variable up to 7 speeds..

By the way, how do you know if the fan is on at over 200kph ? if the AC is off, then it's off... if the AC is on, then it's on...
